Limassol is well know for its famous wine festivals. The Limassol Carnival Festival lasts for ten days in August each year and has a large, popular following. This custom dates back to pagan rituals, and over time has aquired a different persona, with a street parade, floats, and dancing. There are also many fancy-dress balls and parties taking place at many hotels every night.

The great Wine Festival of Cyprus takes place in the Municipal Garden of Lemesos (Limassol), every evening in the first quarter of September between 8pm and 11pm. Visitors have the chance to taste some of the best Cyprus wines, which are offered free of charge. There is also folk dancing, choirs and others.
