Transportation in Limassol

It is easier than ever getting to Cyprus. Most people arrive by air, but there are also ferries to Greece and Israel and buses linking the various cities of Cyprus. Its quite easy to combine a visit to Cyprus with a trip to Israel, Egypt or some of the nearby Greek Islands, such as Rhodes. These destinations can be visited by short flights, or alternatively by cruises, which are a popular option for many visitors to Cyprus.

As Cyprus is at the crossroads of the Eastern Mediterranean, it is a great place to organise a Middle East trip.

Use this Limassol transportation guide for information on getting to and from Cyprus, as well as for getting around the island itself. You can also get further travel information in our Cyprus transport guide. For some great things to see and do, we have many Limassol tours to help you see this beautiful coastal town.

Limassol Transportation Guide

By Air

Cyprus Airways, Helios Airlines and Eurocypria are among the more than 33 airlines which operate scheduled flights to Larnaca International Airport and Paphos International Airport. Larnaca Airport is 77 kilometres from Limassol, while Paphos Airport is 67 kilometres away.

By Sea

As the main seaport of Cyprus, a number of shipping lines from Greece, Israel and Italy all call into Limassol. The southern part of the town houses the new harbour. It can be reached either by taxi or the No. 1 bus, which connects it to the town centre.

Getting Around

Buses
Limassol is one of the main transport hubs on Cyprus, and as such bus lines run to and from Limassol from all over the island. There are three main bus stations.

The first is at Enoseos and Eirinis Street, just north of the castle. Lines originating from this station, where KEMEK buses have their offices, include the Nicosia - Limassol line, the Paphos - Limassol line and the Polis - Paphos - Limassol line. For further information, including timetables, call: 25 363 241.

The second bus station is on the corner of Araouzou and Hadjipavlou streets. Kallenos lines have their offices here, and their buses travel to Larnaca and Agia Napa.

The third station is used by most of the local Limassol buses. It is on Andreas Themistokleou street, which is in the town centre. Buses from here travel throughout Limassol and its suburbs.

Taxis
Taxis are quite common throughout Limassol and reasonably priced. Connections to the other major towns on Cyprus is via a network of shared-taxi-lines. Although generally at least twice the price of buses, they are faster and much more frequent. In Limassol, there are 2 shared-taxi terminals. One is Akis Express, which is located at 21 Thessaloniki Street. The telephone number is: 25 362 061. The second is Kypros Company, which is at 49 Spyrou Araouzou Street. The phone number is: 25 363 979.

Car Rental
Car rental is common and easy in Limassol and the other bigger cities of the island. Although not as cheap as some other Mediterranean countries, they can be extremely useful for exploring the countryside, especially if you are planning on visiting the Troodos Mountains. As well, tax drivers may sometimes refuse to carry more than three passengers with luggage, which may leave car rental as a more convenient option. There is no daily limit for kilometers on rental cars in Cyprus - the daily rate is all you will pay. As in the United Kingdom, cars (usually) drive on the left in Cyprus. Most hotels and resorts will be able to help you with renting a car in Cyprus. Rental car companies also have offices at both Larnaca and Paphos airports.
